Mullion Cove, Cornwall May 2023 by Ali Cutting (Ladies Representative) – newly qualified OD (Mar 2023)

As I didn’t know if UK diving was something I would take up I decided to borrow all the equipment from iDive, the members were extremely helpful and kind enough to rent/lend me all the kit I needed.

For my 1st UK dive I decided to go to a beautiful part of the country and I wasn’t disappointed even if it was an awful long way for just the weekend. The weather was exceptionally kind and we had perfect conditions out to sea although we were unable to dive at our original location Porthkerris due to the wind direction.

Not knowing what to expect I threw myself into it. My first thoughts were the amount of organising it took and the physical strength involved before/during/after diving using the club boats. Without the help of all the members this wouldn’t have been possible.

Neutral: predominately a male environment, don’t be put off! It’s just as much fun with men, women of any age

Negatives: early starts, not relaxing, physically exhausting, you can’t worry what you look like, you can get cold

Positives: great experience, camaraderie and banter, amazing help & support, safety first, broaden your skills in different environments and conditions, get fitter/stronger

I’m so glad I tried it! You should too.
