Dear members, this is a schedule of informal lectures for our members for the coming year. You may apply for them directly to alan.r.beaumont@outlook.com, and the spaces are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. No knowledge of the subject is assumed, except for the O2 admin which is open to Sport Diver and above. Otherwise all are welcome.

Underwater photography (and possibly some pool work) 29th January 2026 An introduction to underwater photography. Suggestions on camera equipment and some practice in the pool
O2 Admin and resuscitation refresher March/April 2026 For Sport Divers and above. An opportunity to practice your resuscitation skills and Oxygen administration skills (using club kit).
Electronic tools to help plan dives (tidal software etc) TBC How to use some of our software and online tools to help plan dives (e.g. tidal software, wave height, wind speed etc.)
How to organise dive trips  TBC Guidance on how to organise a dive trip from initial outline plans, what to consider and how to wrap up a trip after all the fun diving.
Chart work and how to use charts to find dive sites, plan dives etc TBC What information is on a chart. How to work out your position, plot a course, find the tidal info etc.
How to use the club chart plotter to find dive sites etc. First lecture.  6/11/2025 Practical session on how to use the club chart plotters to enter dive sites co-ordinates, plan a course, find previously entered waypoints etc.
How to use the club chart plotter to find dive sites etc. Second lecture. 20/11/2025 Practical session on how to use the club chart plotters to enter dive sites co-ordinates, plan a course, find previously entered waypoints etc.
How to use the club’s VHF radios 09/10/2025 Practical session on using the clubs VHF radios.
Boat handling course using the club boats to practice steering, anchoring, using the electronics etc 19/10/2025 Practical session on how to tow, launch and recover our boats safely. Anchoring, slow speed manoeuvring, finding a wreck, using the depth sounder and chart plotter practice.
Club boats familiarisation (dry session so you can see where everything is stored (flares, anchor, etc)) 2/11/2025 Dry session at the boat hut to review where we store all our equipment on the boats, how to set up the electronics and initial survey of over-winter maintenance needs.
Rescue skills refresher training in the pool 13+27/11/2025 Rescue skills refresher in the pool
Rescue skills refresher training at Stoney Cove TBC Rescue skills refresher in open water
Boat handling review/safety session April 2026 Discussion on how to manage safely launching and beaching our boats when the sea conditions have deteriorated.
