Before the dive season, we all need to brush up on our skills and knowledge, and 2026 is no exception. Last night we had a range of activities at the Fore Street pool, including dry suit training, so that the next step of using it in open water will be easier.

There was also a classroom session about using electronic tools to help plan dives. That means knowing how to predict slack tides at a particular location, and knowing the co-ordinates for a wreck, so we looked at all the electronic aids we had, including Garmin’s Active Captain app, and their Boating app, and how they connect to our UHD2 chart plotter (WIFI). We also have a laptop with a Tidal Prediction app on it for precision dive planning.

Next week is a lecture on ‘technical diving’ (e.g. twin set diving, mixed gasses etc), and there are still several lectures and workshops planned before we get back into club diving – our first big club dive being at Lizard in Cornwall in May, with some prep dived at Stoney Cove, and perhaps a few, as-yet unplanned, dives.
