Summer BBQ at Bawdsey: Sun, Stories and a Strip of Sand

Waves Shape

On 30th August 2026, iDive held its annual Summer BBQ on the Bawdsey side of the River Deben — a perfect spot for a relaxed day by the water. Our club RIB was kept busy throughout, ferrying visitors across from Felixstowe and giving the whole event a wonderfully nautical feel.

Members old and new gathered on the beach, sharing food, catching up, and swapping stories from decades of diving. The younger crowd made full use of the day, taking turns on the jet‑bike or heading out on the RIB for a blast of salt‑spray adventure.

As the tide crept steadily higher, our narrow ribbon of sand held firm, and the BBQ kept turning out hot food. Sunshine dominated, with only a few half‑hearted clouds threatening mischief — but the weather stayed kind, and spirits stayed high.

Among the conversations were fond memories of the Sunstar and ISAC dive clubs, and tales of the many great dives both groups enjoyed over the years. It was a reminder of how deep our local diving heritage runs, and how many stories still surface whenever divers get together.

Families joined us too, bringing extra laughter and energy to the day. Several were already eyeing the water with interest, contemplating their first steps into SCUBA — proof that the next generation of divers is never far away.

A brilliant day, a brilliant turnout, and a brilliant reminder of what makes our club special: community, adventure, and a shared love of the underwater world.
